BUCERIUS MASTER OF LAW AND BUSINESS GRADUATION 2022

In August Bucerius Law School bid farewell to the Master of Law and Business class of 2022 and welcomed the Master of Law and Business class of 2023

16 years ago Bucerius Law School celebrated the enrollment of the first MLB class and since that time, the program has grown continuously and adapted it’s interdisciplinary curriculum to changing economic trends. With more than 650 graduates from over 100 countries around the globe, the MLB Program has been steadily building a strong alumni network of interdisciplinarily educated and internationally oriented young professionals.

Graduation ceremony

On August 30th, the Law School celebrated the graduation of the class of 2022 with a special ceremony in the Helmut Schmidt Auditorium.  It was a wonderful celebration of the hard work and dedication of the class after a year of in-person and hybrid classes, group work, presentations and the writing of a master thesis.

41 students from 23 countries walked across the stage to receive their diplomas and flip the tassles on their hats from one side to the other signifying that they are now Masters of Law and Business. The graduates passed on some very useful advice to the new MLB Class of 2023 who officially enrolled in the MLB Program in the same ceremony.

The ceremony was also streamed live for the many families and friends worldwide who couldn´t attend the ceremony in person.

MLB Opening Speeches

Mr. Benedikt Landgrebe, Deputy CEO of Bucerius Law School and MLB Dean Professor Christopher Bisping, hosted the event which was opened with speeches from Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Katharina Boele-Woelki, Dean of Bucerius Law School, Christine Neuhaus, Executive Director, Head of Funding Division of the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS and Christoph Saake Representative of the Bucerius Alumni e.V.

This year’s inspiring keynote speech was given by Nata Ghibradze, an MLB graduate of the class of 2014 who reflected on her time in the Program and encouraged the new graduates to believe in themselves and work hard to follow the path they wish to pursue. She also emphasised how important it is to give back to the communities in which one lives and announced her generous donation to support the social service project which is a core part of the MLB Program.

Professor Christopher Bisping gave his first graduation speech giving much food for thought on the topic of metamorphosis and the transformation that occurs to the students and graduates as they experience the MLB Program and the graduate journey thereafter.

In addition to the speeches, the audience were treated to a lovely, heart felt duet from Yvette Ochieng’ and Luisa Hernandez.

PRIZE GIVING 2022

The prestigious DAAD Prize 2022 for outstanding academic performance and social engagement was awarded to Ms. Naomi Gabriela De Leon Muratalla from Mexico. She also represented Bucerius at the Comparative Law in Action competition in Spain.

Naomi received double honours in the graduation.  For her very timely work on ‘The uncertainty of the New Order in the Natural Gas Industry of the European Union after the Russian Invasion of Ukraine’ she was awarded the MLB Alumni Prize for the Best Thesis which is generously supported by MLB Graduate Dr. Axel Moeller and the Bucerius Alumni Verein.
