Admission & Application

Bucerius Summer Programs are designed for advanced law students and recent graduates. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a keen interest in the field of practice on which their program focuses.


Required level of legal studies

At least two years of undergraduate level law studies if from a country where law is an undergraduate degree.

 

At least one year of graduate level law studies if from a country where law is a graduate degree.

Language Proficiency

Applicants must submit one of the following to satisfy the minimum English language requirement for participation:

  • TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT): 90
  • IELTS Academic Program: 7.0
  • Duolingo: 120
  • CAE: B or CPE: C
  • ILEC

A test requirement waiver is issued for candidates who are currently enrolled in or have graduated from an English-taught program.

Phone interviews may be scheduled with students who have spent significant time in English-speaking countries, have completed shorter programs in English or whose proficiency test has recently expired. The decision whether an interview will be conducted will be based on the submitted application.

German language skills are not required.

How to apply

Please apply via the online application system.

Applications will be processed as they come in. Applicants can expect a decision within four weeks of submitting their complete documents.

  • Early Decision Deadline: March 1 (15% off tuition)
     
  • Standard Deadline: May 1
     
  • There is no application fee
     

Candidates who wish to apply after the deadline should contact us via email first.

Required Documents

Transcript of grades

    If you are still a student, the transcript must be emailed by your university to Inga Diercks-Ferm.

     

    If you have already graduated, you can upload your official final transcript in the application portal.

    The transcript must

    • be in English or German
    • be for your legal studies (if also have a business-related degree, please submit this transcript as well)
    • must include a description of the grading system and, if possible, class rank

    Statements regarding your motivation, background etc. as per the questions in the online application from
     

    Financial aid application: if you are applying for financial aid, the application MUST be submitted with your application for admission or it cannot be considered.

    Applications for 2025

    We will begin accepting applications for the 2025 summer programs in December 2024.
