Biography

Born in 1964, Birgit Weitemeyer completed her legal studies and First State Examination in 1991 in Kiel.

Following this, she participated in the post graduate program "National and International Environmental Law" at the University of Kiel. In 1994 she completed her doctorate on the topic “Legal Measures for Dealing with Bankruptcy Proceedings, Environmental Law and Insolvency.”

In 1996 she passed the Second State Examination. Afterwards, she worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Civil Law, Commercial Law, Corporate Law and Tax Law at the University of Kiel until 2002.

In 2003 she completed her post-doctoral studies with the thesis entitled “The Corporate Taxation of Public Enterprises with a Particular View to Their Hidden Profit Distribution”, receiving the venia legendi for Civil Law, Commercial Law, Corporate Law and Tax Law.

From 2002 to 2004 she occupied a Chair at the Helmut-Schmidt-University – University of the German Armed Forces ‑ in Hamburg. From 2004 to 2007 she occupied the Chair for Civil Law, Foreign and International Private Law and Comparative Law at the Technical University of Dresden.

Since April 1, 2007, she holds the Chair of Tax Law and is Director of the Institute for Foundation Law and the Law of Non-Profit Organizations.

Hamburg
