From 25 – 27 March 2022 Luisa Hernandez, a Colombian Master of Law and Business student at Bucerius Law School took part in the three day LWOW Sprint event hosted by IE University in Segovia. Over the course of 3 intense and challenging days, talented, multidisciplinary teams made up of a mix of intergenerational legal and business professionals, academics, and law/business school students from around the world worked together to solve real business-of-law problems and social responsibility challenges.
The Sprint 2022 followed the innovative 3-4-5 method (3 Phases-48 Hacking Hours-5 Stages) and included collaboration exercises, intensive hacking as well as a mini-composium. Luisa talked to us about her experience.
Why did you choose to participate?
When I first learnt about LWOW I thought this reflects the multidisciplinary character of the MLB Program, which was the main reason why I decided to apply. Therefore, I thought It would be the perfect opportunity to apply the knowledge I had already gained to create a solution to a current problem involving business and legal issues. I am truly fascinated by how these two disciplines complement each other to create solutions to social, economic and legal problems and provide new perspectives in a variety of situations. It is very useful to understand the full picture from different perspectives.
What´s the first thing that comes to your mind when thinking about the LWOW experience?
Without hesitation: Teamwork and Challenge! LWOW challenged all of us to work with others that we had just met in Segovia, all of us with different nationalities and perspectives. Teamwork was the skill we needed the most for the whole experience as well as to find a solution for a complex problem in a such a short time.
How intensive was the preparation for the pitches?
It was really intense even before the Sprint, but of course in Segovia it increased. However, it is part of the experience. It is meant to be intense, otherwise coming up with a solution within 3 days would have not been possible!
What inspired you most on this tournament?
It is really hard to choose just one thing, because this program is full of amazing and inspiring experiences, but if I had to choose, I would say the people, participants and organizers are incredible human beings from whom I learnt a lot.
Will you stay in touch with your team members?
I think this is part of LWOW, keeping contact with my team mates is something I will work on. It is incredible how in just some days you can become really close not just with your team mates but with other participants.
